Benjamin B. Cable, MD, is a board-certified otolaryngologist and fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist at ENT and Allergy Centers of Texas, seeing patients at the Frisco and McKinney offices. He is one of the few community-based ENT physicians in North Texas to have held the rank of full Professor of Surgery at two academic institutions: the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (2014) and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (2017).

Dr. Cable is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he received the Superintendent’s Award for Excellence and the Distinguished Cadet Award. He earned his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences as an Alpha Omega Alpha honors graduate and recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Army Surgeon General’s Award. He completed his otolaryngology–head and neck surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and his pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, one of the nation’s most respected pediatric ENT training programs. He has been certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology since 2002, with recertification in 2011 and Maintenance of Certification in good standing.

During 24 years of military service, Dr. Cable served as Consultant to the U.S. Army Surgeon General for Otolaryngology — the Army’s lead ENT physician — and as Chief of Clinical Operations for NATO health care in Afghanistan. He served as Department Chief of Otolaryngology at Tripler Army Medical Center and, after military retirement as a Colonel, as Department Chief of Otolaryngology at the Carilion Clinic.

Dr. Cable has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters, cited over 470 times in the medical literature. His research spans pediatric airway reconstruction, laryngomalacia surgical classification (the supraglottoplasty types 1–3 system), button battery injury management, RNA interference for airway scarring, and the genetics of hearing loss, including contributions to GenBank. He has been an invited speaker and surgical teacher in the United States and eight other countries, including at the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and serves as an invited peer reviewer for ENT journals.
